PRELIMINARY BUDGET AND ELECTION RESULTS  5-20-25

In unofficial results, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 the Scarsdale community approved the Scarsdale School Budget by a vote of 586 yes to 160 no, for an approval rate of 79%.

In the contest for school board members, Colleen Brown was re-elected with 602 votes, Suzie Hahn was re-elected with 634 votes, and Laura Ying Liu was elected with 615 votes. All three individuals will serve three year terms expiring June 30, 2028. There were 78 write-in votes. The District sincerely thanks the candidates for their interest in serving in this important leadership role.

“This year’s budget process was a challenging one. We are grateful to our community for their input during the process, and strong community support of our students through the adoption of this budget,” said Dr. Drew Patrick, Superintendent. “This budget will allow our schools to continue to reach the high standards we expect for our students while staying within the tax cap. We look forward to continuing to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students in keeping with our strategic plan priorities, Learning, Living, Leading.”

Ms. Suzie Hahn, President of the Scarsdale Board of Education echoed Dr. Patrick’s gratitude:

“On behalf of the Board, thank you to the community for your support of our schools and our students,” Ms. Hahn said. “I would also like to thank District Clerk Honore Adams, Chair Meg Simon, all of the poll workers who volunteered their time, and the Scarsdale Middle School staff for ensuring everything ran smoothly. Congratulations to Colleen on her re-election and Laura on her election to the School Board. I look forward to serving with them and the rest of the Board in the coming year.”

Scarsdale High School also held an election today for two Ex Officio student seats on the Board of Education. In accordance with a recently enacted law, the Scarsdale Board of Education developed a policy and process to guide the selection of student members. Four candidates for each of two positions were on today’s ballot. Congratulations to Anish Mehta, representing the Class of 2026, and to Lucy Eisenberg, representing the Class of 2027. Their service to their peers and the school community is eagerly anticipated.

The Board expresses its appreciation for all of the applicants and candidates, including Oliver Kaiden, Dylan Lemberg, Arun Nayakkar, Kayla Fieldston, Margot Lombaerde, and Amelia Wachs. The Board also wishes to thank the Scarsdale High School Government and Administration for organizing this first-ever student BOE election.

The Board will confirm the results and make them official at their next meeting on Monday, June 9, 2025.
