The Middle School computer curriculum helps students build on skills that were introduced at the elementary level. The goal of the program is to make sure that students are completely fluent in and at ease with using the tools of technology, so that students can concentrate on expanding their knowledge through curriculum projects rather than learning specific steps in computer operations.
The computer curriculum enables students to use software applications that support the school's interdisciplinary curriculum, such as desktop publishing tools, databases, spreadsheets, graphing programs, multimedia authoring and video editing tools. A centerpiece of the program is the use of multimedia and digital video to enhance curriculum projects.
Ethical use of technology is emphasized during computer classes. Two computer teachers coordinate and support the Middle School program. Computer aides also provide support in the computer labs.
The technology curriculum is embedded within the context of departmental educational goals. The following are examples of how technology is used to enhance instruction in the various departments:
Use Excel spreadsheets, charting software and financial investment simulations
Art
Family and Consumer Science
Industrial Technology
