Eligibility for Transportation

The Board of Education affirms its responsibility to provide a reasonably safe and economical transportation system for District students. Transportation services are provided at District expense for eligible students in accordance with the following criteria:

District Students (Grades K-12):
Transportation will be provided to students whose homes are located 1.5 miles or more from the District school they are legally enrolled in.

Students Attending Nonpublic Schools:
Transportation will be provided to students attending nonpublic schools located outside the District, provided their homes are a minimum of 1.5 miles and a maximum of 15 miles from the school. Residents must submit a Transportation Request, click here by April 1st.

  • New Residents: If you move into the district after April 1st, you must apply within 30 days of establishing residency.
  • Late applications will only be honored if there is room on a school bus and there is no additional cost to the District, does not require additional buses or add a significant amount of time to the route.

Students with Special Needs:
Students classified with special education needs attending special education programs will receive transportation as required by law.

K-8 Students Attending Child Care Programs:
Transportation is available for students in grades K-8 who attend before-school and/or after-school child care programs that are located 1.5 miles or more from their assigned District school. This includes all locations within the school attendance zone, as well as licensed child care facilities anywhere within the District.

Late Bus Service for Out of District Grades 6-12:

Eligible children in grades 6-12 attending non-public schools outside the district shall be provided with late bus service only if the request for such service is timely and made by not fewer than ten (10) students from one or more non-public schools outside the district located in such proximity that they are already receiving joint transportation service. Such service shall be provided only one (1) hour beyond the regular bus departure time and shall be discontinued if fewer than ten (10) students regularly utilize such service.

Late Bus Service for In District Grades 6-12:

Late bus service will be provided for Scarsdale Middle School Tuesday thru Friday  1 hour after the regular bus departure time.  Late bus service will be provided for Scarsdale High School Monday thru Thursday departing at 3:10pm  and 4:15pm (see routing schedule in the parent portal)
